Grade 8 Girls Looking Good

The Grade 8 girls' basketball team is off to a great start this season. Coaches Mulock and Morris have the team in mid-season form already. Here is a report from Coach Mulock:

The Collingwood Cavaliers Grade 8 Girls Basketball team played the Carson Graham Eagles on Tuesday, December 11th. The team just came off a 3rd place finish in the CapU Queen of the Court Tournament and were excited and ready to play their first game of the season.

The team quickly took control of the game and went on a 7-0 run against the Eagles making transition lay-ups and putting pressure on defensively. In the second quarter, the team lost momentum and allowed the Eagles back into the game with a score of 16- 7 at half-time.

In the third quarter, the Eagles pressed the Cavaliers making the score closer and closer. In the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers widened the gap and were up by 25-20 halfway through the final stanza. With a couple of turnovers in the final 2 minutes the Eagles closed the gap, making the score 25-24. The Cavaliers maintained their composure in the final minute and took care of the ball keeping their one point lead.

Kiana Shabhazi and Nina Winckler were the high scorers of the game and Kate McDougall had a great game rebounding offensively and defensively. Daisy Li was solid defensively with 5 steals. The team is excited with their first win of the season and they are looking forward to their game Thursday, December 6th.
