The swim team recently competed in the Vancouver Sea To Sky Zone Championships. Here is a full report from Coach Yoon:
The Collingwood Swim Team competed out in Richmond again for the annual Vancouver Regional Zone Swim Meet. This was our second meet of the season under strict Covid safety rules. The Zone qualifier is a very competitive event, and we're proud of all our swimmers who competed hard for our school while complying with the strict safety guidelines. We have some great results to report back, and a special thanks to Mrs. Carlbeck for bringing the hot chocolate, ramen noodles, and marshmallows for the team- this made the event more memorable and fun for all!
Grade 12 senior and team captain, Josh DeCoteau, had another fantastic performance in all events. He placed second in the 50m Open Freestyle race and will again compete at provincials. The 50m Freestyle race will have all the best swimmers in the province racing. As a grade 12 senior, Josh is looking forward to the challenge, and he is in an excellent position for a top finish. It was also great to see Josh team up with his little sister Claire. The sibling duo finished second in the 200m Mixed Medley Relay with Tristan Govier and grade 8 standout Cici Sun. We're excited to see Collingwood's first-ever brother-sister duo compete at provincials as a team and go for a medal.
Grade 11 senior Tristan Govier continued to dominate at Zones and qualified for provincials in several events. Earlier in the season, Tristan set a new record at ISAs in the 100m Backstroke, and he looked even better at Zones! Tristan was the only swimmer in the Vancouver region to break 1 minute in the 100m Backstroke, and is now heading to provincials as a medal candidate.
Senior swimmers Henry Brewster, Jeremy Lu, and Harbour Dollinger also qualified for provincials. Our junior swimmers also had some fantastic finishes headlined by Abereena Xu, who qualified for four events. Chloe Yang, Saige Fiorvento, and Reine Huang are also heading to provincials. Overall the boys placed 3rd, and the girls placed 5th. It was one of the best team finishes for Collingwood at Zones. We are thrilled to have a good mix of junior and senior students for our 12 member Provincial Swim Team, and we now look forward to the BC Championships on November 19th and 20th.
Congratulations again to our 2021-2022 Collingwood Provincial Swim Team! Josh DeCoteau, Tristan Govier, Henry Brewster, Jeremy Lu, Harbour Dollinger, Keiran Benson, Claire DeCoteau, Saige Fiorvento, Reine Huang, Cici Sun, Chloe Yang, and Abereena Xu.
