Collingwood School's Explore Program seeking Winter Trip Leader
December 5-9 and January 9-20 plus other dates

Collingwood School in West Vancouver, BC is seeking an Outdoor Education specialist to work with the Explore Program in delivering 3 weeks of our Grade 9 Program in the winter. We invite applications from candidates who exemplify leadership, teamwork, professionalism, and a well-rounded background in experiential education and/or cross country skiing and winter camping experience to complement this highly regarded program.

Successful candidates must possess the following:

  • Experience in delivering safe, high quality outdoor programming to youth
  • Current Wilderness First Aid Certification (80 hour equivalent)
  • The ability and flexibility to co-instruct with other members of the Explore Department
  • Valid Driver's license (Class 4 preferred)

Preference is given to those who also possess some or most of the following qualifications:

  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate OR an undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations with both adults and youth
  • Superior organizational and communication skills
  • Clear vision of the role that outdoor education plays in the personal development of young people
  • A high level of physical fitness and passion for the outdoors
  • Professional training and/or certification in the some of the following areas: Nordic skiing, Avalanche safety, Outdoor Council of Canada Leadership, etc.

A Field Trip Leader in the Explore Program at Collingwood School will be responsible for:

  • Helping in the delivery of our well-established Grade 9 Winter program. This includes commitment to three 2 night overnight trips.
  • Commitment to high standards of professional conduct, policies, and procedures in relation to risk management, industry best practices, and curricular outcomes
  • Assisting in the assessing students for specific learning objectives as well as student report writing

Full-time hours:
Orientation and prep: 2 days – Novemer 28,29: 8 am-4 pm
December 5,6: 8 am – 4pm; December 7-9 overnight trip.
January 9, 10; 8am-4pm; -Jan 11-13 overnight trip
January 16,17: 8am-4pm; Jan 18-20 overnight trip
January 23: 8 hour day for report writing and wrap up

Successful candidates may be considered for further work with other seasonal programs.

Salary:
Based on a rate of $280/day, will approximately be $5040 based on a projected 18 days of work.
