After upsetting Elphinstone on Monday, the senior volleyball team earned themselves a berth in the North Shore AA Final Four. What lay ahead was a match against Seycove, the #1 seed from the North Shore Premier Division. A win would have been monumental, a loss meant a second match on Wednesday night against #3 ranked STA.
With this tough road ahead of them, the Cavs headed for Deep Cove this afternoon for their first match against Seycove. A 21-25 loss in the first game gave the girls confidence that they could compete. In the second game, the Cavs were very much in the mix but fell 18-25. This meant a short rest before facing STA.
In the first game against STA, it appeared that maybe fatigue had set in and the fresh Fighting Saints won easily 10-25. With changes clearly necessary, Coaches Jolliffe and Harder made some key tactical adjustments to the line-up. The result was an incredible 30-28 win for the Cavs. The team saved multiple set points and then won the game on a terrific point that involved amazing team defence and two hard swings by Nina Kovacevic.
With the match now tied 1-1, Collingwood's confidence was sky-high while the STA team seemed to lose their 'mojo' completely. The result was a fantastic 15-7 win for the Cavs.
Collingwood now has qualified as the #3 seed off the North Shore for the Vancouver Sea To Sky Zone Championships. They don't have to play a wildcard game, they are right into the main draw on Tuesday at Notre Dame in Vancouver.
Nina Kovacevic hits the winning point in the second set.
The Cavs celebrate earning a berth into the Zone Championships.
