All across the North Shore, Collingwood teams are playing in must-win playoff games this week. It's an exciting time for all our teams. Here's some of the athletes that shone last week.
Darcy Foote – Senior Volleyball
Darcy is quickly becoming one of the most all-around athletes on the senior volleyball team. Her aggression, both at the net and in the back court, is the key to her team's growing success in offense and defense. Darcy Darcy continues to improve each practice and game and is a leader of passion, support, and intensity amongst her teammates.
Evan Maier – Senior Soccer
Evan has been outstanding all year for the senior soccer team. He has been a real workhorse in the midfield. In last week's heartbreaking loss to Mulgrave, Evan scored the Cavs' only goal. In Coach Cantarutti's word's, "His grit and determination afforded him the opportunity to take that shot and he capitalized".
Lexy Bannister – Senior Field Hockey
Lexy stepped up in the team's time of need and took on the goalie position with passion. Every game and practice she improved and has chosen to stay in the pads for the remainder of this season and into next. Lexy really was a force during the Zone Championships and made key saves against both York House and Crofton House to help the team win the Zone Championships!
Abereena Xu – Senior Swimming
Abereena had a very successful performance at Vancouver Sea To Sky Zone Championships. She finished second the girls 100m IM and had several top 4 finishes in all her events. Abereena has qualified for 4 events for the BC Provincial Championships.
Harbour Dollinger – Senior Swimming
Harbour Dollinger has been working very hard at all the practices and helped our mixed freestyle relay team to a third-place finish at the Vancouver Sea To Sky Zone Championships. Harbour will be teaming up with Abereena again in the relays and we wish them all the best at provincials.
Hana Horsman – Junior Field Hockey
Hana was outstanding in her position of centre forward all season long. Always brimming with positive energy and enthusiasm, Hana demonstrated leadership both on and off the field. Hana played with hustle and heart all season, and particularly demonstrated grit when she fractured her wrist in a tough final draw against Sutherland.
Marley Lorence - Grade 9 Volleyball
Marley Lorence has been a key member of the Grade 9 volleyball team throughout the season. She is a great all-round athlete who will play any position she is asked to during a game. Marley's consistent serving was a crucial in keeping team moral high during the tough league game against Sentinel.
Campbell Stewart – Grade 8 Volleyball
Campbell has been an outstanding player this season. Her combined strength and height make her an imposing blocker and dynamic hitter. Campbell is committed and dedicated to the volleyball program. Her work ethic, positive attitude, and skillset has contributed to the Grade 8 team's success in league play this year.
Jake McAdam – Grade 8 Rugby
Jake's refined skill set, ability to read the play, and desire for success have been major contributing factors to the Grade 8 Rugby team's success so far this season. As a regular try scorer and point-leading team member, Jake can get it done as a ball carrier, ball distributor, and conversion kicker. His coaches look forward to seeing this on display again this week in the North Shore Playoffs.
