Junior Field Hockey Cavs Looking Good

The junior field hockey team is comprised solely of Grade 8 and 9 students this year.  This makes it tough when they play bigger schools who not only have more students to choose from but also have Grade 10's on their teams.  Although wins may be hard to come by early in the season, the junior coaches feel the future is very bright for this talented group of young players.  Here is a report from Coach Allan:

“The junior girls field hockey team played their second regular season game against Handsworth Secondary on Wednesday. Although the team conceded 5 goals to the older and physically dominating Handsworth team, the Cavs were overjoyed to secure their first goal of the season. After a joint effort from the entire forward line and a short battle in front of the net, Kayla Yu sent the ball across the line.

Goaltender Naeve Lustig stopped 13 shots and played an excellent game, aided by solid play from a backfield anchored by Gigi Dorey and Zara Pejman. This second game was a huge shift from the first as the juniors were able to settle into their roles and positions.

All in all it was an excellent second game and coaches Allan, Kovesi, Pezim, and Power know that this team has huge potential and can’t wait for our next game!”
