The senior girls' basketball team won their fourth straight North Shore league game last night with an impressive performance against the Rockridge Ravens. Coach McLaughlin was very pleased with the team's performance. Here is her report:
Tuesday night action featured the Collingwood Senior Lady Cavs facing off against the Rockridge Ravens. Rockridge has been a consistent challenge for the current Grade 12s, facing off against them in several important games throughout their career - tonight was no different.
The Cavs had been warned about the Ravens' big zone defence and had prepared as best as they could. The game started off well for the Cavs, executing on offense and getting some good stops on D opening up the first quarter with a score of 13-7.
However, the second quarter saw the Ravens' point guard come to life as she began finding her way to the hoop, scoring on drives and free throws. Luckily, the Cavs overcame their defensive struggles with some good offence of their own taking a 31-23 score into halftime.
The third and fourth quarter saw even distribution of scoring for the Cavs as they had some of their best ball movement all season, with five and eight different players respectively adding to the scoresheet. The final score was in favour of the Lady Cavs, 68-52.
Keira M had a stellar performance on the evening ripping down multiple boards, drawing fouls, and getting put backs. Sara G also had a breakout performance sliding into gaps in the Ravens' zone and putting in 9 points. Kayleigh G and Muneet G continued to the "Tim and Tony" of the Cav's finding each other in transition and against the zone defence, scoring 12 and 22 respectively.
The Sr Girls will now face off against the #2 provincially ranked STA Saints in their last regular season game of the year, 6:00 at STA.
They will also host a Sr Girls Alumni Game on Sunday, Dec 23 at 11:00 (gym opens at 10:30). If you are a Sr Girls alumnus, we'd love for you to come to play! Contact morgan.mclaughlin@collingwood.org to RSVP.
Izzy Fry has gone from star field hockey goalie to star point-guard. When soccer season starts, she'll be starring in that as well.
Sara Gerber enjoyed her best game of the season last night with 9 key points.
