The senior girls' basketball team has had an impressive start to North Shore regular season play. Last week, the team reeled off three straight wins. Coach McLaughlin sends in this report on a fantastic week:
Since Tournament Madness to open the senior girls' season, they've been rather busy with fitting in several league games before the Christmas break.
The Cavs opened up their league schedule on Monday, facing off against Sentinel, who had a rather feisty team despite only fielding 5 players. Coach Blaszak was pleased that the Cavs maintained a good level of play and all the Cavs saw court time and made the score sheet, winning 71-29.
Wednesday, the Cavs were back in action against Sutherland, who came out strong with a dominant performance by their star Grade 9 player. However, the Cavs weathered the storm, and came away with a 72-43 win, once again having all players contribute to the final score.
A quick two days later, and the Cavs were playing a rare Saturday game against Mulgrave. The weekend game allowed for a large crowd to attend!
It was a close game in each period, every time the Cavs started to take a small lead, Mulgrave would get back within striking distance with their impressive 3-point shooting. As the game progressed, the Cavs kept their composure against the Mulgrave press, eventually scoring fast break points and increasing the point spread.
The fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Cavs outscored the Titans 25-18, and at the final buzzer, the Cavs came away with an 80-62 win.
The Cavs are back in action at home on Tues 18th against Rockridge and then away at STA on Wed 19.
The Cavs would like to invite any alumni Basketball ladies to come out to the Alumni game on Sunday, Dec 23rd at 10:30 (tip off at 11:00). Please contact morgan.mclaughlin@collingwood.orgif you would like to come and play!
