The Grade 9/10 boys' and girls' basketball teams opened the Junior Cav Classic in fine fashion today with first-round wins. The boys team had an easy first game as they disposed of the Fraser Academy Mustangs 73-15. The girls game was far more exciting as the Cavs raced to a 16-2 lead only to see it evaporate completely in the 4th quarter. Down 54-52 with just over a minute left to play, Collingwood rallied to score the last seven points of the game to win 59-54.
Rachael Chete and Sara Fraser led the way with 18 points each. Both girls hit two clutch free throws late in the game to give the Cavs the win. Liz Mathisen and Seli Edstrand added 6 points and 5 points respectively.
In the boys' game, William Zhang led the way with 22 points. Arthur Na added 12, while Nic Wrixon and Kai O'Krane chipped in 10 and 7 points each.
