The senior soccer team defeated Bodwell in dramatic fashion last week in a tense penalty shoot-out. The game was tied 0-0 after regulation time so the two teams automatically went to the penalties to break the tie. The Cavs were to score seven goals in the shoot-out and won the game after goalie DJ Moretto made his third save on Bodwell's nine shots.
The penalty shoot-out started poorly for the Cavs when the first penalty was saved by the Bodwell keeper. However, DJ saved the third Bodwell shot which kept Collingwood alive. Blaise Benoit, Brent Anderson, Aleem Karmali, Imraan Karmali, Tucker Lake and Kris Suri all scored, but Bodwell kept pace with some well-placed penalties of their own. After Collingwood's eighth shooter missed, Bodwell had a chance to win the game. However, DJ made another save to keep the Cavs alive. Thomas Foote then scored and when DJ completed his hat-trick of penalty saves, the team jubilantly swarmed him.
The Cavs were wearing their new all-white DH kit for the first time this year. These uniforms were commissioned to honour long-time Collingwood teacher and soccer coaching legend Dave Hughes who sadly lost his battle with cancer in June of this year. As Dave was a goalie during his playing career, he would have thoroughly enjoyed DJ's outstanding play which led the Cavs to victory.
