The senior soccer girls posted two huge wins this week. First, they defeated Rockridge 4-0 on Monday afternoon. Tannis McKay, Alexa Bossley, Sophia Garofalo and Immy Fry all scored goals. Yesterday's match was far more intense against a fine Whistler squad.

The Cavs scored a brilliant goal in the first-minute of play. Alexa Bossley put in a terrific through-ball to Bella Parker who used her speed to break down the wing. Bella's cross was pin-point for a streaking Tannis McKay who hammered a shot off the post. When the rebound came back to her, Tannis calmly pushed it into the back of the net and the Cavs were up 1-0. Here is Coach Hodal's game report:

With many players missing, the team had to really rely on its depth against a strong Whistler opponent. Great passing play early between Bella Parker and Tannis McKay gave us an early lead.

The Cavs continued their early pressure with great chances by Bronwyn Bird and Alexa Bossley. Despite the early onslaught of chances, the Cavs were still only up 1 – 0 and did not have the luxury of losing focus for any amount of time. Megan Mauro and Morgan Border were very strong in the middle; winning one-on-one battles and distributing the ball to the outside defenders.

Our back line, consisting of Alessa Haas, Rachel Graham, Gabby Vilamil, Kayleigh Garland, and Brooke Lucke, was absolutely solid. They held the ball and switched the play with confidence throughout the match.

Our outside mids, Alexa Bossley and Bronwyn Bird also had their best game of the season. They joined the attack when the team had possession but also showed a lot of unselfish discipline by getting back to support the defense. Other unselfish moments came from Olivia Bosa who stepped up to play forward for us, and Kelsie Stephenson who made some key saves throughout the match.

The 1 – 0 win was truly a team effort today. The win put us in first place in the league with two games to go. The coaches were thrilled. As Mrs. Gold would say, whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Sophia Garofalo may be in Grade 9, but she has already established herself as one of the team's top strikers.
