The senior rugby team defeated McMath 68-14 yesterday to advance to the Lower Mainland Final for eighth straight year. Collingwood has won the AA New Zealand Shield a record 12 times and will be looking to make it 13 when they play the Tupper Tigers next Thursday. The Tigers upset Rockridge 13-10 yesterday in a thrilling overtime match. Collingwood defeated Tupper in a league match before March Break, but the Tigers look to be a much more dangerous opponent than earlier this year.
The Cavs opened yesterday's game with a fine defensive stand and when this forced a turnover Duncan Bustos was quick to turn it into 5 points. Adam Lewis was next to score as scampered down the left sideline for a try. Ethan Lucke was quick to add another try and the Cavs were up 17-0.
McMath responded with a try of their own to make it 17-7. Cam Bruk then went on a scoring spree that included a hat-trick of tries and a conversion to boot. This made it 34-7. However, it was the Wildcats who finished the half on a high when they scored and converted their second try of the game to make it 34-14.
Collingwood scored five tries in the second half. Lucas Okano scored two, while Adam added his second of the game before Alex Ferreira and Lucas Beaupre finished off the scoring.
Lucas Okano scored two second-half tries yesterday in the Cavs 68-14 win.
Collingwood's one-two punch of Jack Allen (with ball) and Max Moyes is almost unstoppable. The two big men suck in defenders with their powerful runs, which gives the Collingwood backs plenty of room outside.
