The senior girls' soccer team kept their impressive win-streak alive with a 2-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Seycove yesterday. The league banner was on the line so it was no surprise that the tightly-fought game went to penalties.

Collingwood now finds itself in the 'driver's seat' for the zone playoffs. As the North Shore #1 seed, the Cavs automatically face the Burnaby-New West champion. The winner of this game on May 14 is given an automatic berth to the BC Championships. The loser will get another chance to qualify on Wednesday. Here is Coach Hodal's report on the title-winning victory:

With the League Banner on the line for both teams, our Cavs knew they would be in for a competitive match against a strong Seycove side. An early breakdown in the back caused a turn over and put Seycove up 1 – 0. The Cavs kept their composure and continued to play their game in a contentious and gritty game. We got rewarded shortly after with a long range strike from Megan Mauro who caught their goalie off guard; tying the game at one.

Aggressive play continued for both sides. Megan Mauro, Tannis McKay, Sofia Garofalo, and Hailey Gaida kept the fire going for our team by asserting themselves physically throughout the match. Alexa Bossley and Megan Mauro came close to scoring in the second half; each ringing the crossbar on their attempts at goal. With only a tie needed for the Banner, the team stayed disciplined and kept Seycove chances to a minimum. When Seycove did have some sniffs at the net, Kelsie Stephenson and Rachel Graham made sure they were in a good position to make saves.

The game went to a shootout where, once again, our shooters were clutch and our shootout specialist keeper, McKinley Kennedy, made tremendous saves to keep our 6-game winning streak alive. The team will now play the winner of Burnaby-New West on Monday May 14th for a chance to qualify for the BC's. The team would like to thank all of the people that came out to see the game and support our team. GO CAVS!
