The senior basketball team entered the BC Championships hoping to pull off an upset or two and get to the medal round. Sadly, this dream ended early as they Cavs lost their first-round game to Clarence Fulton of Vernon and were relegated to the Consolation side of the draw. Throughout the tournament, the team struggled terribly with its outside shooting and the result was a 10th place finish. Here is Coach Wong's tournament report:
The Cavs (25-10) wrapped up provincials with a 2-2 record, and finished 10th in AA. The team was able to rebound from their first round loss to Clarence Fulton (57-50) to get wins over Southridge (67-61) and Sahali (74-60).
The Cavs had their chances in each game, but their shooting consistency struggled throughout the tournament. In their first game, they shot an abysmal 22% from the field for the game, and against DP Todd, they shot 9% from behind the arc.
The team lost narrowly (68-64) to DP Todd in the 9th place game. Denis Tuck was finished his season with a monster stat-lines at Provincials. He averaged 19ppg and 17rpg for the tournament. He was player of the game against Sahali, with 27 pts and 20 rbds.
When you miss a lot of shots, there are lots of rebounds. Denis Tuck was once again a 'beast on the boards'. He averaged 17 rebounds a game at the BC's.
Duncan Bustos was the Player of the Game against Southridge. He scored 20 points and was outstanding defensively as well.
Brodie Jacobs was the 'go-to' offensive player throughout his entire Collingwood career.
Tariq Alibhai came off the bench against Clarence Fulton and provided a real spark. Coach Wong will be looking for great things from Tariq next year.
