The Seycove Seahawks entered the Howe Sound Playoffs as the #1 seed. As result, they earned the right to host the playoffs. With a brand new scoreboard installed for this event, the Hawks were keen to light it up. What they were not expecting was a smothering and relentless defensive performance by the Cavs. When the Hawks looked up at the end of the first quarter and saw that they had only managed 9 points, they must have realized that they were in big trouble.
Coach Wong was definitely pleased with the team's performance yesterday. While the Cavs did manage to turn a big lead into a tense affair in the final minutes, the team held on for victory and have now qualified for the BC Championships for the third time in the last four years. With one more win, they will enter as the Howe Sound Champions. Here is Coach Wong's report:
Collingwood (23-6, #5 AA) showed poise and discipline in the opening half of the Howe Sounds vs. Seycove (#7 AA). Duncan Bustos and Tyler Preston stifled Seycove's offense, en route to a 39-21 halftime lead. Lochlan Collins was a menace once again on both ends of the court. His full court pressure set the defensive tone, and he hit several three's to squash any Seycove momentum. He finished with 19 points on the night. Brodie Jacobs had one of his best games of the year and was named Player of the Game. He had a team-high 22 points.
Seycove caught fire in the second half, and made a comfortable lead, uncomfortable. The Cavs were up 10 with under one-and-a-half minutes when Seycove hit two big three's. Cavs win 80-77. With the win, Collingwood has earned a berth to the AA Provincials http://www.bchighschoolbasketballchampionships.com/2aboys/ . They continue their quest to win the AA Howe Sounds on Friday when they travel to Seycove to take on the winner of STA/Seycove. Tip-off is set for 5:15pm.

Denis Tuck (20) was once again the team's leading rebounder. Duncan Bustos did an amazing job of keeping Seycove's star Chris Ross off the scoreboard for much of the game.
