The senior girls' volleyball team finished their season with a fine showing at the ISA Tier 2 Championships. Collingwood hosted this five-team tournament, which featured teams from across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
The Cavs had a wonderful start to the tournament. They swept all three of their matches on Friday as they defeated St. John's, Meadowridge and St. Margaret's without losing a set.
This set up a show-down with Southpointe. The Titans looked to be the class of the tournament based on their Friday results and after they quickly disposed of the Cavs 25-13 in the first game, it appeared that Collingwood was in well over their heads. However, the Cavs responded in Game 2 with one of their best defensive performances of the year. They covered the floor brilliantly and came away with a terrific 25-24 win. Sadly, they could not reproduce this performance in the third set and fell 5-15.
However, the Cavs 3-1 record was good enough to earn them a berth into the gold medal match against Southpointe, who finished pool play with a 4-0 record.
The re-match was as entertaining as the game in the morning. Southpointe took the first game 25-23. Collingwood then took a seven-point lead halfway through Game 2. The Titans then rallied and looked to be on their way to a sweep when the Cavs once again grabbed the momentum and pulled out a 25-23 victory.
So once again it went to a third game. Southpointe was quick off the mark and built a big lead. Collingwood made a late push but eventually lost 15-10. Nevertheless, it was a great game. The Cavs will only lose two seniors so the future is looking very bright for next year.
Rachel Na has been outstanding all year for the Cavs.
Charlotte Petterson goes high in match against Chatelech earlier this year.
Collingwood celebrates another point.
