The senior field hockey team won its 11th straight North Shore Field Hockey Championships yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Windsor. In this amazing stretch, the Cavs have won 10 AA titles and one AAA championship for good measure. The Collingwood field hockey juggernaut does not rebuild; it reloads every year. Despite adding 11 rookies to the lineup this season, the Cavs are once again one of the best teams in the province.
As they had in the regular season game, Windsor once again proved to be a formidable opponent for the Cavs. A great team effort provided Liz Mathisen with a terrific scoring opportunity and Liz made no mistake as Collingwood scored the only goal of the first half.
In the second half, the Dukes continued to battle hard, but two goals from Kelsie Stephenson put the Cavs over the top and they once again were hoisting the trophy. Kelsie's return from injury was a definite spark for Collingwood.
Collingwood warmed up for the North Shore Championship game with a second-place finish last week at the Golden Pumpkin Tournament in Surrey. This tournament attracted many of the top teams from across the province and gave the Cavs another chance to test themselves against AAA competition.
Collingwood finished with a record of 2-1-1. They defeated Argyle and York House and tied South Delta. Their only loss came at the hands of Kelowna.
Kaiden Stanley proved to be the goal-scoring hero of the tournament as she hammered home four goals.
The Cavs will now play Argyle in an exhibition game next week as they prepare for the BC Championships on November 8-10.
