Three years ago, the NSSSAA introduced a new trophy for high school golf on the North Shore. All schools whether A, AA or AAA would compete for the North Shore Golf Championship trophy and banner. Therefore, Collingwood would get a chance to test themselves against all the bigger schools.
Yesterday, the Golf Cavs headed out to Squamish and pulled off the 3-peat by winning the overall North Shore Championship yet again. Such is the depth of Coach Payne's squad that he was able to leave two of his best golfers behind and the team still strolled down the final fairway to an easy victory.
The dynamic duo of Phoebe Yue and Sandee Park shot 74 and 76 respectively. Both these young women are capable of shooting under par on any given day so Coach Payne will be counting on them in a big way at the BC Championships. Ben Wrixon has established himself as a key member of the squad and he shot 83. Matthew Lane and Sam Fuller drew into the squad yesterday and got some great tournament experience. Matt shot a 85 and Sam cam through with a 94.
The golf team will now look forward to the upcoming BC Championships in Castlegar. These take place June 5-7.
