Collingwood's powerhouse tennis team scorched the opposition this morning and moved onto to the BC AA quarter-finals. The team is looking very strong. Here is Coach Wong's report:

Collingwood's quest to bring home a provincial championship began this afternoon at Queen Elizabeth Park. The Cavs were in fine form during pool play, defeating Hugh McRoberts (9-2) and South Kamloops (10-1). Coach Wong was very pleased with his teams focus through both matches. Highlights of day one included Amy Young and Maya Negris winning all four of their matches, including a victory over an ITF player, and one of the top girls in Canada.

Both of Collingwood's opponents focused on their doubles matches, and Neeki Alavi and Isaac Davies were able to take advantage of this. Neeki, the reigning singles MVP won her singles matches 6-0 and 6-0, and accompanied Isaac Davies for two more victories in mixed doubles. Isaac won both of his singles matches (6-0 and 6-1).

In doubles, Nima Danaei continued his hot play, drilling numerous forward winners en route to two wins against A doubles teams. He was paired up with both Aleem and Imraan Karmali. The Karmali's also won their matches together 6-1 and 6-0. Jack Mathisen and Conor Robertson showed why they may be the doubles team to beat in the tournament, going 4-0 on the day.

Tomorrow the team will face Prince of Wales in the quarter-finals at 9am. The team is hoping to build on their momentum from the first day.

Neeki Alavi and Amy Young both looked awesome today in their opening day matches.
