The swim team competed last weekend at the BC Championships in Kamloops. Coach Carlbeck has sent in this report on the squad's success this year.

The swim team hit the water for three major meets this year. The first of these was in early October, at the Independent School Meet held at Watermania in Richmond. Collingwood swimmers performed very well and bringing home 5 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals. Overall results saw the team finish 4th overall.

The second major event of the season was in late October, and saw the team competing at the North Shore, New Westminster & Burnaby Zone Championships. Held at UBC, this meet is the qualifier for the Provincial Championships in mid-November. Our goal for this meet was to qualify as many swimmers as possible for Provincials. We achieved that objective with Collingwood swimmers picking up 3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals. Overall, our swimmers qualified for Provincials in 27 different individual events and 8 relays. Congratulations to the entire team for their contributions to our overall performance which saw us finish in 4th overall.

The season concluded with the BC High School Provincial Championships held at the Canada Games Pool in Kamloops. Preliminary racing on Friday saw solid swimming by the entire team most students exceeding their times from the Zones Championships and 20 out of 21 students making it into at least one of the final events. Our most successful team finish was the ladies 200 free medley where Bonnie Wang, Nicole Basran, Julia Wood and Avery Kirstriuk finished 5th. The teams combined efforts resulted in Collingwood finishing 31st out of 93 teams.

The team enjoys a stop in BC's winter wonderland on their way to the provincial championships in Kamloops.
