Ilhan S. (Gr. 9 - Byrd House) was an invited guest and the only non-professional musician to perform in Friday night's "Club Habana - An Evening of Cuban Jazz" at the Playhouse Theatre. Ilhan joined seven other musicians on stage and played the piano for one of their songs. This was an excellent learning opportunity as Ilhan played alongside saxophonist and double Grammy Award winner, Alfred Thompson.
Ilhan started studying Cuban music at age 4 and has received a Gold Medal for piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music of BC. He passion for Cuban music has led him to perform with world renown artists and to collaborate with the David Suzuki Foundation and Emily Carr University in a "path-breaking" ecomusicology project.
