Holly Robertshaw scored a hat-trick to lead the senior field hockey team to their ninth straight North Shore Championship. Collingwood's field hockey program has dominated the North Shore AA division for almost a decade now as they have won eight AA championships and one AAA championship in the past nine years.
The Cavs defeated Windsor 5-0 in today's game. The game was actually much closer than the score would indicate. Windsor's goalie was sensational and the Dukes fought gamely until the Cavs broke it completely open with three goals in the last five minutes.
Early in the first half, it appeared that Collingwood was on their to a 'cakewalk'. A brilliant give and go between Holly and Rachel Graham put the Cavs up 1-0 at the six minute mark. This was a particularly great piece of teamwork as Holly put Rachel in on the Windsor goalie. As the goalie and the last defender slid across to Rachel, she calmly passed it back to Holly for a fabulous tap-in goal.
The Cavs would not score again though until the 14-minute mark of the second half. After a series of short corners were saved by the Windsor keeper, Maddie Connell blasted a shot off the post and the ball bounced off the goalie's heel and into the net. It was a tough break for a goaltender who had been brilliant all afternoon.
It appeared that the Cavs might not get another goal to truly put their fans at ease. However, Holly scored her second goal of the day off a wild goalmouth scramble and then Sofia Ludwig followed that up almost immediately with a goal of her own. On the final play of the game, Holly completed her hat-trick as she was allowed to run in alone on the keeper.
Collingwood will now turn their attention to their final preparation for defending their BC Championship. The BC's run November 2-4 in Surrey.
