With the North Shore AA Championship game this coming Monday, the senior field hockey team has taken extraordinary steps to seek out competition to get them ready to defend their North Shore and BC titles. The team rented turf time in Surrey so they can play two exhibition games against top-notch AAA teams. This will also give the Cavs a chance to acquaint themselves with the Tamanawis Fields where the BC Championships take place this year.
With the UBC Tournament being cancelled last week due to inclement weather, Collingwood was able to set up games against South Delta And Kelowna. Both these teams were also entered in the UBC Tournament.
The Cavs defeated South Delta 1-0 yesterday in a thrilling game. In an attempt to solve their recent scoring drought, the team was trying a new system. While it did not lead to an immediate deluge of goals, the coaches were very happy with the team, especially since they were moving the ball around so beautifully.
Nisha Mainra scored Collingwood's lone goal. In a practice shoot-out that followed, Maddie Connell and Holly Robertshaw both scored to give the Cavs a 2-0 win. Nat Dalton recorded a shut-out in both the game and the shoot-out and continues to give Collingwood absolutely incredible goaltending.
The Cavs will face Windsor on Monday at 3:00pm at Rutledge in the North Shore Final.
