After an exhausting weekend at the ISA tournament, the senior field hockey were back in action on Tuesday against local rival Seycove. The Cavs have been so dominant in North Shore AA action over the past few years that they may have taken the Seyhawks a little too lightly. This was clearly a mistake as Seycove finished 4th in the provincial championships last year and have many of their top players back this year.
Whether it was exhaustion or overconfidence, it soon became apparent that the Cavs had a challenge on their hands. Seycove has a highly athletic team and they were chomping on the bit to test themselves against Collingwood. At halftime, the score was 0-0.
Coaches Gold, Bruner and Underwood were using a new tactical system for the game and although the players were anxious to scrap it, the coaches demanded that the team persevere. As the second half progressed, it was clear that the team was beginning to get it.
With ten minutes to go, Nisha Mainra notched the go-ahead goal off a pass from Jaimie Chrystal. Holly Robertshaw followed this up to make it 2-0. Charlotte Campbell scored in the last minute to make it 3-0.
