The golf team had another good day on Sandpiper on Tuesday and came home with bronze medals around their necks. Coaches Francis and Bruner were thrilled that there young team handled the pressure of the BC Championships so well. Here is Coach Bruner's report:
After a restful sleep and a good hearty breakfast cooked by the coaching staff, the Collingwood senior golf team was ready for the final round of the BC Provincial Golf Championship. Held at the Sandpiper Golf resort in Harrison, one of the hidden gems in BC, turned out to be a great spot with ideal conditions. The weather was cool and cloudy giving the grounds a dryer feel and faster greens.
After round 1, we were sitting in 3rd spot, 5 strokes of the lead from a combined total of our four best scores. Each one of our team members was matched against three other golfers from the schools who were in the top 4, giving a competitive match for each athlete. Grace Yao scored an impressive 74 (+2), Aiden Snyman had a better second day scoring 78 (+5), Oscar Yu played well with a 79 (+7), Grant Anderson scored an 87 (+15) and Kion Hafezi had another great round scoring 91 (+19). Grace Yao also received the low gross score for a female golfer over two days, combined score of 144 (E).
Our team should be congratulated for earning the bronze medal, six strokes off the gold and only one stroke off the silver! As coaches, we were very proud of our young golf team for giving their best effort and preserving through tough moments during each of their rounds. We are so very excited for what lies ahead for this program. The athletes as well, are looking forward to another crack at next years' BC Provincial Golf Championship!
