The track and field athletes travelled to Swangard Stadium in Burnaby for the Vancouver Sea To Sky Championships this week.  Here is Coach McLaughlin's report:

The sun came out (finally) to shine on day two of the Vancouver Sea-to-Sky Track and Field championships.

On the first day of the meet (sadly - raining) three Collingwood athletes braved the elements to compete. Both Eric Wang (Gr 9) and Michael Botti (Gr 9) had qualified 6th and 1st in the Junior Boys Javelin from the North Shore Finals and were set to compete in the elements. While Eric didn't quite make the cut for Provincials, he did throw a personal best - always the first and foremost goal in track and field!

Michael Botti also threw a personal best of 29.81m which placed him third in the field and qualified him to head to Provincials for javelin. On the track, Adam Greyell did his best, running the 3000m, despite feeling under the weather. Adam, like all the grade 8 athletes competing will have their results put forward in the open zones to see if they rank in the top 24 results and qualify for Provincials.

On Thursday, the sunny day brought many sunny results. North Shore Bantam Boys Aggregate winner, Matthew Yu, competed in three events - the high jump, 100 hurdles, and the long jump. Matthew achieved PB's in all three events, the results were enough to win him silver medals in the hurdles and high jump and place 5th in the long jump.

Just prior to Matthew's second place in the hurdles, Michael Scherk also took to the straightaway to race in the Sr Boys 110m hurdles. Michael's qualifying time from the North Shore finals was the fastest in the field. His race did not disappoint, as Michael blew away the competition finishing with a blistering time of 14.49 that secures him a spot in the Provincial Championships.

Our lone female competitor, Elise Miller was in the first race of the day, the bantam girls 500m. In what proved to be a very fast race, Elise placed 7th overall and was very near to her PB as well. She too will have her time entered to see if she will qualify for Provincials.

While the track season was one unlike any other, the Collingwood Athletes should all be very proud of their continued improvement and achievement of Personal Bests. We will look forward to the Provincial Championships in Langley at the beginning of June.
