The senior rugby team defeated West Van 26-12 on Thursday to push their record in Vancouver Sea To Sky exhibition play to 2-0. Just before March Break, the Cavs had defeated Sir Charles Tupper 32-0.
Thursday's match was a tough test for Collingwood as the team was missing five starters due to a variety of reasons. However, this meant that coaches Speirs, Larisch and Takel could give some other players valuable game experience. As the season progresses this could be very important as the Highlanders were a highly physical squad that gave the Cavs all they could handle.
Tanner Jackson opened the scoring after a West Van miscue led to a dropped ball that Tanner scooped up and ran in for an easy try. James Foote followed this up with a powerful run for a try. The Max Price conversion made it 12-0. Right before halftime, Eden Wan dummied a West Van defender and then streaked through a gap for a lovely try. Max's conversion made it 19-0.
It seemed that Collingwood might coast to an easy victory but some poor decision-making and shoddy tackling allowed West Van to build some momentum and score two tries to make it 19-12. However, Collingwood finished with a flourish and after some fine inter-play between forwards and backs, Presley Bosa picked up the ball at the back of a ruck and crashed over the line. Max's third conversion of the day finished the scoring.
