After a tough opening day, the senior girls' basketball team was back on the court bright and early this morning. Despite an 8:30am start, the Cavs were sharp and sprinted out to an 11-0 lead against A. R. MacNeill from Richmond and never looked back. The final score was 78-63 with Collingwood being in control almost the entire game other than a couple of minutes in the third quarter when they let the Ravens briefly cut into their double-digit lead.
Reese Tam got the Collingwood offence moving right away with Kiana Shahbazi a happy recipient of many fast-break passes. When MacNeill slowed down the Cavs' transition offence, Collingwood moved the ball into gaps in the Ravens' zone defence and the forwards went to work scoring endless baskets in the paint. The Cavs also dominated the boards, which led to multiple second and third chance opportunities, which were turned into points. Halle Anderson, Mo Kelly, Sam Waugh and Nina Winkler all contributed in a big way.
Reese was named Player Of The Game. The Cavs now await the winner of the Kelly Road v Abbotsford Traditional game.
