The Grade 8 boys' basketball team powered their way through their first three games of the St. John's tournament before running into an excellent Lord Byng squad in the final. The Cavs had a 10-point lead partway through the third quarter, but they lacked 'the killer instinct' and allowed Byng back into the game before succumbing to the Grey Ghosts 55-45. Here is Coach Yoon's report:
The Grade 8 boys' basketball team recently traveled to St. John's School to take part in their bantam boys' tournament. Our team was able to pull out three convincing victories before facing Lord Byng in the finals. Despite losing 55-45, it was a very competitive and close contest right down to the final minutes.
Joaquin Lupton was named Game MVP, and congratulations to Alex Yu for being named Tournament MVP. Overall, Mr. Vidic and I are happy with how the boys competed. It was a great learning experience for the boys, and tough games like this will help us get ready for our main goal, which is to win the North Shore playoffs.
Before the St. John's tournament, the team finished league play with a 7-1 record and secured first place for the North Shore playoffs. It's an exciting time for the Grade 8 team. An automatic berth to provincials is on the line, and Collingwood will now host the key playoff games. The team will have two more practices before the playoffs officially start later this week. We look forward to playing our best basketball of the season, and we encourage all students to come out and support the team.
