The Grade 8 girls' basketball team rallied from a 7-point deficit with under two minutes to play to win a thrilling 39-37 semi-final game over Argyle yesterday.  The victory puts the Cavs into the North Shore Final where they will face Mulgrave.  This game is on Tuesday at 3:45 at Mulgrave.

In yesterday's game, the Cavs built a 9-point halftime lead but scored only 3 points in the entire third quarter.  With momentum on the Pipers side, it appeared that it was going to be Argyle's day as they started to pull away in the fourth quarter.  However, the Cavs rallied and tied the game with just over 35 seconds remaining.

This set off a crazy sequence of events that can only be characterized as classic Grade 8 basketball.  Argyle crossed half with a chance to win the game, but turned it over.  Rather than holding the ball for the last shot, the Cavs threw an ill-advised full-court pass that the Pipers knocked out of bounds.

The Cavs now had 21 seconds on the clock and the ball under the Argyle basket.  However, when Argyle intercepted the inbounds pass, they raced up the court with their second chance to win the game.  This all became undone when Reese Tam picked off a pass and stormed back down the court.  Reese's lay-up with 2.5 seconds left gave the Cavs the victory.

It was an incredible finish to a terrific game.

Reese Tam's breakaway lay-up against Carson on Tuesday was nice, but it pales in significance to her heroics yesterday in the North Shore semi-final.
