The Grade 8 boys' basketball team is off to a fantastic 2-0 start in North Shore league play.  Not only have the Cavs won their first two games but they have defeated two perennial basketball powers - Handsworth and STA.  Here is Coach Yoon's report:

Mr. Vidic and I are very excited to be working with this year’s Grade 8 boys basketball team. This was a strong team in Grade 7, and the boys are off to a strong start and transitioning well against high school competition.

On Monday, we had our first league game against Handsworth. The boys played a very hard game, and we were able to pull out a 59-50 victory. It was a close contest from start to finish. Mr. Vidic did a great job rotating the lineups, and the team shot very well from the free-throw line, which prevented Handsworth from generating any momentum and pulling away.

James Holm was clutch in the final minutes of the game by hitting a huge 3 pointer that gave us the lead; he followed up with another great play by converting on give and go layup from Max Fraser allowing us to close out the game. Handsworth traditionally has one of the stronger Grade 8 teams on the North Shore, and it was great to see the boys step up to the challenge. A special thanks to all the senior boys for their support towards the end of the game by cheering the Grade 8s to victory.

The team played our second league game on Wednesday, Dec 4, against STA and won convincingly 53-16. Mr. Vidic continued to sort out the offense, and we were happy to see the boys improve their team play, especially on the defensive end. Henry Li, Rio Yassin, and Alex Yu all had good games, and Joaquin Lupton played exceptionally well on both ends of the court. Max Fraser finished the game with 17 points.  The Grade 8 boys play next against Carson Graham on Monday, Dec 9.
