Collingwood sometimes has so many good field hockey players the decision is made to field a second senior team. Historically, this team is known as the "Killer B's". This year's version of the Killer B's was entered in the UBC Tier 2 tournament this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Here is Coach Allan's report on a team with absolutely no quit in them:

The Senior Blue Field Hockey Team won Bronze in the Tier 2 division of the UBC tournament this weekend. This was an outstanding accomplishment for several reasons.

Thursday and Friday the team had a full roster, but struggled through pool games, suffering some discouraging losses and ending up playing in the Bronze match on Saturday morning. Due to injuries, illness, and other reasons, the team was severely reduced in number.

Nine girls, two short of a full team, took the pitch on Saturday morning, against a Crofton team with a full bench. Playing without a goalie, and a bit unsure, but largely positive, the girls finished the first half tied at 0-0. That sparked hope and the team played a strong second half, helped by a few lucky bounces and good positioning. The final whistle blew with the game still tied at zero.

Having no goalie, Skyler Edstrand, fearless and rock-solid, stepped in to defend during shootouts. With goals scored by Lola Bosa, Saylor Sprenger, and the aforementioned Skyler, the first round of shootouts finished tied 3-3. Sudden death shootouts followed. Lola scored again as the first shooter, Crofton answered, and neither of the second shooters scored. Saylor scored next and Skyler successfully defended the third Crofton shooter, ending the game with an astounding 5-4 Collingwood victory.

Even more important than the win, was the lesson. As Coach French put so eloquently, it was about coming out, playing with heart, and having a positive attitude. And of course, keep it classy.

Coaches French, Allan, and Davis want to thank the girls for their amazing effort, and the entire team for their efforts during the tournament and the season so far.
